Inarguably a visual spectacle, "YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE" is also one hell of a punch to the gut. Joaquin Phoenix is, once again, supremely fantastic, but in a more ferocious way than we've ever seen him before.
It's an unbelievably heavy film, confronting all of the darkest corners of humanity's cruelest depths, and Lynne Ramsay launches at them unapologetically and with no reserve. Prepare to be stricken, by both its stunning cinematic craft but just as much by its uncompromising and brutal narrative.
