Review of Year by the Sea (2016) by Jean P — 13 Nov 2016
Based on the memoir, A Year by the Sea, Thoughts of an Unfinished Woman by Joan Anderson, I couldn't image how this deeply personal book could be transformed to film. I shouldn't have had any doubts. Alexander Janko knows his craft and this film exceeded all of my expectations.
The movie is amazingly funny, insightful and somewhat crazy and at times. The chemistry between Joan and Robin (her husband), even during tough times made me want to root for them.
The movie made me smile, laugh and cry. I felt like I wanted to be right there drinking wine, laughing and figuring out the future with these amazing characters.
I loved this movie and would highly recommend everyone see the film.
