Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Sean C — 14 Jun 2010
Alfonso Cuaron definitely succeeds with this sexy, spunky, and intelligent road movie. The three leads all gave solid performances, especially Maribel Verdu, who is convincing as a wise and intelligent sexpot.
Her resilient acting chops would again surface in Pan's Labyrinth five years later. The film was markedly less ambitious than other works from the three amigos (Del Toro, Cuaron, and Inarritu), namely Amores Perros, but is much more successful than that film as a result, simply because it energetically accomplishes what it set out to do.
