Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Joseph G — 21 Mar 2016
After watching this film I immediately moved it to the top of my all time favorites list. A good film needs to do a lot of things well, but for me most importantly it is how the movie makes me feel. Is it thought provoking, does it bring up old memories of my own life and do I get absolutely lost in the films story. I check every box when it comes to this story. At times it feels Nirvana's classic hit " Smells Like Teen Spirit" it reminds me of when I was young and would run the streets with my best friends. I didn't have a care in the world, I had great friends and through the seasons some have come and gone. This film captures that feeling, it speaks to friendship, love, loss, sex, adventure and maturity into adulthood. That change in life is always there and I've found as an adult you can never get that care free feeling back. Even some of our best friends will grow distant, which is fine. Our life is always revolving and bringing in new people and experiences. But for all the in between times we will have " Y Tu Mama Tambien" to remind us of people and things that have come before.... In my life, I've loved them all.
