Review of XXY (2007) by Benjamin J — 25 Oct 2008
I agree with the person who said an American director would probably have dropped the ball on this one (I found Boys Don't Cry ultimately unsatisfying in it constant homages to movie stars like Clift and Dean).
It's also not as overly sentimental--soundtrack is spare. I highly recommend this film to those who do gender studies of any kind. The only literary equivalent is Michel Foucault's Herculin Barbin or perhaps Middlesex.
It's about time we had a film like this!
