Review of XXY (2007) by Daniel B — 26 Jul 2010
XXY is a very contemporary film which deals with the exploration of sexuality, emotions, descision making and coming of age. I thought it was a very thoughtful film which looks at who people are and with the main character Alex been a hermathadite gives a compelling story of whether she wants to be a boy, a girl or both and not go through the complexities of surgury but all in all comes down to the fact she is growing up and os experiencing changes.
I also thought the role of Alvaro in the film was also great and how it looks at who he is and how he changes within himself especially after meeting Alex. The mood of how the film was shot was quite dark even though you could tell it was set in a warm and sunny environment although I liked this as it was different.
Overall a very good film that is recommmended.
