Review of XXY (2007) by D. Ryan L — 23 Nov 2008
I was seriously worried about this one. Luckily, it was pretty good.
XXY has a pretty standard plot for LGBT films, right down to disturbing events, confused teenagers, and love triangles. Yet, the plot is pulled off in an interesting and sensitive way. About half of this sensitivity is told on the bearded face of Ricardo DarÃn. Luckily, even with most of his face covered, DarÃn is up to the task. The cast around him also does a pretty good job (Inés Efron as Alex is more than pretty good) although the visiting couple (Germán Palacios and Carolina Pelleritti) was weak, perhaps because they weren't well developed.
Overall, nothing earth-shattering but well-made and nice to look at.
