Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Kevin V — 04 Sep 2016
The Good: Another sick Quicksilver scene, the characters and themes are still handled with more care than most MCU competitors, and as always -- a solid cast holds it together. The movie's resolution feels like a strong closing to the prequel trilogy.
The Bad: Apocalypse is a cookie-cutter villain and Oscar Isaac's talent goes underused, what should be an entertainingly violent Hugh Jackman cameo just feels clunky and poorly choreographed, and this is the most generic superhero-film plot of any X-Men movie -- a big letdown when it comes on the heels of arguably the series' best, Days of Future Past.
