Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by King L — 14 Jul 2017
Another in a series of prequels for the X-Men in the current Marvel cinematic universe. As usual it doesn't follow the comic books that I read back in the 1960s. It has a lot of new characters that were not around back then.
They appeared years after I stopped reading the comics. Nor does it follow any of the animated TV shows. This film takes place 20 years after X-Men: The First Class so it was a bit nostalgic because it had the music and the pop culture of the 1980s.
In this film archaeologists discover a dangerous mutant inside an Egyptian pyramid. This mutant escapes and starts to recruit mutants in order to form an army to conquer the world. Professor Xavier and his X-Men are called upon to battle him.
While this film is not as good as the earlier films in this series, it's still entertaining to watch. The X-Men were among my favorite superheroes when I was a kid and it's always enjoyable to see them come to life.
