Review of Wuthering Heights (1992) by Sarah D — 22 Jun 2009
I have mixed opinions about this film. I quite enjoyed it, and it's much closer to the book than the black and white version, but I don't think Cathy and Heathcliff are a) well cast or b) well portrayed.
I would imagine that both leads are almost impossible to cast well, as they're such famous and complex characters, but that shouldn't matter if the acting is good (which I didn't think it was here).
I really don't like Ralph Fiennes, but I did try to watch it with an open mind. In my opinion, he just didn't look like Heathcliff and didn't do the character justice at all (but then Heathcliff is one of my favourite literary characters!).
