OK...here is the latest batch of films we have watched in my vampire lit class.

Wuthering Heights was ok. I hated the book, but the film made it make more sense to me. I think I must have missed something in the tone. However, I still don't care for the characters all that much and was still happy at the end when the main characters were all dead. This older version with Olivier as Heathcliff was good at portraying the tone of the book, but it left out a lot of stuff including several characters and the whole second generation that was in the book.

The other version of Wuthering Heights that we watched was much closer to the book, but lost a lot of the tone. I actually enjoyed this version better, but again was glad everyone died. The characters just were not likable at all, no matter who is playing them.

Last night we watched the Night Porter. I'm not sure about the film. I had some issues about the abuse in the film and nearly walked out. Anyway, I don't really know how to explain the film. There's a guy who used to be a Nazi officer and is now the porter at a hotel. There is a girl who was one of his "victims" and walks into the hotel. They end up getting together, she leaves her husband and moves into his appartment, and they have a lot of sex. In the end they are both killed. I'm not sure about the ending. Seems too easy. Anyway, this movie is stuck in my head and makes me kind of uneasy. I probably should rate it higher, but I just didn't care about the characters all that much and didn't care that they died.
