Review of Wristcutters: A Love Story (2007) by Todd M — 16 Feb 2009
A decent movie, but probably not one I need to see again. The non-judgmental view of suicide was a curious but interesting take on the subject. Patrick Fugit did an excellent job in creating a character that you kind of wanted to succeed, but you pretty much knew probably wouldn't.
On something this low-budget, I would've eliminated any of the special effects scenes that were, honestly, done rather poorly. It would be preferable to write around the effects, rather than to do it so cheesily.
Another tip: if it's an independent movie, don't get known stars for bit parts. Jake Busey and Will Arnett took me right out of the movie, and there was absolutely no reason for either of them. If a known actor is in a larger role in an indie film--fine. But leave cameos for the big studio comedies.
