Review of Wristcutters: A Love Story (2007) by Damanjit L — 11 Aug 2009
I love that this film has such bleak cinematography. It really adds to the whole concept of an afterlife for those who have committed suicide. Patrick Fugit is great as Zia, a boy who offs himself by slitting his wrists after he breaks up with his girlfriend Desiree. Zia soon finds out that Desiree offed herself as well about a month after his death. Zia then sets off to look for her with his Russian friend Eugene and a hitchhiker named Mikal who believes she is in this world by mistake. Will Arnett also makes a great appearance as the "Messiah.".
I also like that the introduction of each new character is followed with a flashback of how they committed suicide. I think this gives viewers a better idea of who the characters are. No one really knows what is beyond death but being able to experience someone's vision is always interesting and fun.
