Review of Wristcutters: A Love Story (2007) by John M — 23 May 2012
For being very depressed not more than a month ago, I've searched some movies about suicide, I guess to make myself more depressed. So I discovered this independent film, and it was not like the one that I was expecting; depressing and sad.
Though it was gloomy in a way, it's some kind of comedy but not the kind with huge laughs, it is bittersweet and it is ingenious. It has a witty dialogue, some good acting and clever ideas. So what would you do if you killed yourself and wake up in a world where everybody else who lives there committed suicide too, a world with no smile at all, a much more sadder world? Trapped forever in that recycle bin with suicidal people like you, and it's a punishment for killing yourself.
Would you be happy because you're still living though you're really dead in the real world? Or maybe sad because the miserable life only prolongs? Well if it's me, it would be a wonderful adventure, like this film had been, a great and memorable ride into fantasy.
Another question, does this film attracts more suicides because of the idea it suggests? Well, it has a happy ending. It has its flaws, but still it is saved every step of the way.
