Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Andrew M — 29 Apr 2012
Sick, demented, and completely hysterical at times, WGD succeeds on raw expression and searing thematics. Albeit over-exhausted humor, Robin Williams delivers the woes of a father trying to deal with the impossible.
In the shadows of the darkest times, one might feel compelled to self-prioritize in coping with the pain. Waiting for that lucky break while your surroundings excel is tough, but in the wake of a family death, it's damn near impossible.
WGD deals with the "shit" that Williams does, except at a more superficial level of feeling: it synthesizes pain, laughs, darkness, and faux optimism as our protagonist loses sight of his original objectiveâ"true contentment.
