Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Tatsuhito K — 18 Jan 2017
WOW! This is a brilliant satirical black comedy. I was very impressed by "World's Greatest Dad"; the way it handles its deadpan tone and absurdist humor was so precise, so even though there were some frustrating and suffocating moments, it had me interested all the way through.
Kudos to Goldthwait for his confident direction and satirical script, and Robin Williams for his committed performance. This character works because it's played by Williams, and if it had been played by a less likable, less skilled actor, I don't think it would've worked as well as it is now.
"World's Greatest Dad" explores the nature of celebrity culture and infamy with dark, deadpan humor. I can't imagine myself rewatching it again, but man, it was quite brilliant.
