Review of Working Girl (2009) by Will G — 12 Jun 2007
Though this is a Mike Nichols' film, and though it contains some really interesting performances and a plot that turns out to be fun and engaging, Working Girl has all the earmarks of those typical early-90s skanky films most of us hate.
Terrible clothes, worse haircuts, and desperate attempts to be "sexy." It's hard to believe that this was one of Melanie Griffith's first films, since she demonstrates a mix of confidence and vulnerability that Marilyn Monroe had so much of (and that Meg Ryan would come to be known for).
When Tess (Griffith), a hard-working secretary, comes up with a brilliant idea while her boss (Sigourney Weaver) is away, she conspires with another executive (Harrison Ford), who is convinced she's an executive, too.
Careful: some pointless POE here and there.
