Review of Son of God (2014) by Will G — 11 Apr 2014
The first and last five minutes of this movie were pretty good, but I probably only liked the latter because the movie was finally over. The first half of the movie is just scene after scene of Jesus performing a famous scene from the Bible transitioned by either Jesus and a disciple staring out into the distance like some Calvin Klein models or walking through a desert. There's zero context for each scene, and the scenes end so quickly that any emotion that could've been conjured falls flat. The movie gets slightly better once Jesus enters Jerusalem, but not by much.
I am a Christian, and this movie did nothing for me. I spent most of my time wondering when this movie would end. With that being said, the movie wasn't really insulting. If you really just want to see certain scenes from the Bible come to life, then you might like this movie. I can't say that I hated "Son of God", but aside from just seeing certain scenes there is no reason to see this movie. If you are going to go see it in order to convert your friend, don't waste your time. If I wasn't moved by the movie, I highly doubt a non-believer will.
