Review of Working Girl (2009) by Carolyn G — 10 Jan 2010
One of my all-time favorites. It has the best opening and closing scenes of any movie ever. (Tess headed into Manhattan on the Staten Island ferry to "Let the River Run" and finally, Tess calling Cynthia and asking "Guess where I am" resulting in Cyn throwing her arms up in the air in victory).
In between, lots of great one-liners and definitely, the best performance of Melanie Griffith's career. I was 19 years old when this came out and hadn't even started my career yet so I couldn't directly identify but it was still an inspiring, empowering comedy - which is rare.
The entire cast was a stand-out - even Alec Baldwin as the slimy Mick. If you haven't revisited this movie in a long time, I think it is time to throw it in the queue. The hair and clothes might be outdated but it still holds up pretty, pretty well.
