Review of Wordplay (2006) by Scott C — 30 Jun 2009
An okay, but far from essential documentary. It's about crossword puzzles, so I guess there's only so far you can go. On the other hand, King of Kong is one of my favorite movies, so I guess you can go pretty far.
The negatives: The "players". There was no one I could remotely relate to, or feel any sort of empathy towards. I wasn't rooting for anyone in particular, because everyone was bland. The level of actual drama is pretty minimal.
The positives: The behind the scenes on how puzzles are created, and the people who create them was interesting.
The best endorsement I can give is that I immediately resurrected my own crossword habit.
