Review of Woodstock (1970) by Luis M — 30 Jun 2008
The best concert film around along with the last Waltz (Scorsese was editor of Woodstock and famously wore cufflinks to the event).
Wadleighs film captures the Hippy dream before the murder and mayhem of Altamont a few months later.
Wadleigh fills the screen with so many amazing performances that its tough to pick a fave although Joe Cocker ,Santana,Croby,Stills and Nash and The Who and a blistering set by Ten years after are the best parts.
The spilt screen technique really works here and the bits inbtween the music give you a strong idea of what a mudbath the festival ended up being .
Made more poingnant by the fact a lot of the performers are no longer with us ,the film still rocks ,and warning the Brown acid is not good.
