Review of Woodstock (1970) by Domi D — 02 Nov 2011
A time capsule for sure (watched across two nights) with amazing split screen or tri-panel presentations (edited by Schoonmaker and/or Scorsese in places). Musical performances, of course, with Hendrix and, um, Ten Years After, really capturing my attention -- but also lots of footage of "life at Woodstock" and the fun or problems faced by 400 or 500 thousand hippies (mud, toilets, food).
Interviews with locals from the town and a bit of an exploitation vibe make it seem that Wadleigh himself is an outsider looking in, which connects this to the Maysles and other doco-makers rather than being strictly a participant observation.
