Review of Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018) by Pamela G — 03 Jul 2018
After all these years children's educational television still feels as though it is missing something with the absence of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood from its programming. This documentary makes you feel his loss more acutely.
The documentary tells how Fred Rogers conceived his TV show and provided most of the voices for the puppets in the neighborhood of Make Believe. The documentary also addresses that Fred Rogers used his show as a platform to denounce racism without making any kind of public statement.
He just gently showed how he felt by example, sharing a wading pool with a black member of the show's cast. It makes me sad that a child today will miss out on the lessons taught by Fred Rogers.
