Review of Woman in Gold (2015) by Mark C — 29 May 2015
While I completely sympathise with Mirren's character and her case, I really did not like her personality. She has a sternness and a bluntness I didn't like, which is why I think (contrary to some of the critics here) that Ryan Reynolds was perfectly cast. His charm and likeability is a good compliment to her abrupt personality. He has a scene where he confronts Mirren's character that proves he's more than just the handsome, Hollywood actor.
The main problem is that this movie is far too one sided which made it predictable. Some movies you go along with even though you know the story (e.g. the recent live action Cinderella) but Woman in Gold is just dull most of the time. While the real life events may be inspiring, the movie's version is far from it, despite the talented actors involved.
