Review of Woman in Gold (2015) by Filippo S — 04 May 2016
Lots of nasty Austrians versus lots of nice Austrians. Fascinating overall story about lost art, though, and solid performances. The story, however, seems a bit cliche and predictable: whenever Maria despairs, she has a restorative vision of some sort. The flashbacks seemed too inconsistently filmed to me; some were like PTSD "attacks" while others were quite meticulous mini-movies.
On the other hand: Helen Mirren. 'Nuff said.
And She Who Must Be Cloned - Canadian Tatiana Maslany - is wonderfully cast as the young Maria.
