Review of Wolf Creek 2 (2013) by Alex R — 19 Apr 2014
Sequel to Greg Mclean's Wolf Creek is a step down from the first film, but is nonetheless a worthy Slasher film in the genre. The film brings back actor John Jarratt who portrayed psychotic killer Mick Taylor in the original returns in this follow-up.
Although not as great as the original, Wolf Creek 2 is nonetheless a worthy sequel that has some standout kill sequences and great gore effects. The cast do a good job in their roles, and Jarratt seems again his element in the lead role of Taylor.
The film has a layed back feel to it, and I felt that the original was a much more in your face film, while this one feels like it lacks something to really give it that edge. Wolf Creek is a good film, but it could have been much better too.
The kills here are what keep you entertained and the latter half of the film is quite impressive as well. But like every sequel, it fails to really capture the essence of the original, and that's the case with many sequels in the horror genre.
As it is, it's a good, entertaining follow up, but one that never fully realizes its potential, and the finished film is good, but you're left wanting a bit more out of the film. Wolf Creek 2 is exhilarating entertaining that despite the fact that it's a step down from the first film, will surely please fans of the genre as well as fans of Mclean's first feature.
Wolf Creek is a gory ride that retains elements of the first, but it navigates similar territory, which is a bit of a letdown, but if you're looking for a pleasant time waster, this sequel is worth watching.
