Review of Wishmaster (1997) by Chris H — 27 Dec 2007
Definatly one of those good bad movies. The plot of the story is basic: Djinn are evil and grant wishes. Needs to grant enough to bring his buddies to our world. The movie basically consists of him walking around and fucking people over with what they really want. It's a little B-movie fun, it obviously has a lot of problems. Like how the entire movie could have been over easily had she made an obvious wish, BUT WHO CARES?
The actors are ok, but Andre Divoff really shines as the Djinn. You might know him from the T.V. show Lost. He plays the Russian with the ye patch. The man has the voice for the role thats very deep and evil sounding. Whether his voice was altered I dont know but it works.Theres a little bonus for us horror fans. Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th movies), Tony Todd (Candyman), and Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm street movies) have roles in the film.
The effects are pretty good too. Not really CGI involved, just make up and props. We get some pretty gruesome stuff. How many movies have you seen where a mans skeleton rips out of his skin and attacks another guy...AWESOME!
It's kinda of like one of those cheesey movies you watch with your friends or one of those movies you watch when there is nothing else. It can be a fun ride if you know what your getting into.
Now watch it, and fulfill the prophecy!
