With an absent father and a withdrawn and depressed mother, 17 year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) keeps her family together in a dirt poor rural mountain area. When the local Sheriff tells her that her father put up their house as collateral for his bail and unless he shows up for his trial in a weeks time, they will lose it all. She knows her father is involved in the local drug trade and manufactures crystal meth, but everywhere she goes the message is the same: stay out of it and stop poking your nose in other peoples business. She refuses to listen, even after her father's brother, Teardrop (John Hawkes), tells her he has probably been killed. She pushes on, putting her own life in danger, for the sake of her family until the truth, or enough of it, is revealed.

This slowpaced emotional drama has been praised everywhere and after having seen Jennifer.

Lawrence in a couple of other movies I have taken an interest in her. She has the future for her in the movieindustry. I missed out on seeing "Winters Bone" when it was released and I got hold of the dvd the other week. However, I will not go in the same footpaths of praisal as so many others have done. I think "Winters Bone" fails to engage me as a viewer due to its numb pace and almost boring narrative, despite the fact that the storyline is of a very tragic nature. Jennifer Lawrence is very good as Ree. But, the movie felt slightly clichedriven and floaty in the structure. I did not find "Winters Bone" such a gripping cinematic experience as many reviews claims it is.
