Debra Granik's second feature film may be insightful, sometimes engaging, and does feature a strong performance by Jennifer Lawrence as the unflinching protagonist, but the sheer bleakness and slow pace failed to invest me in the story-making the viewing barren, rather uninteresting, and hence tedious.
