Review of Winter Light (1963) by Flike S — 31 Aug 2008
My favorite of the Trilogy. Truffaut said it best in categorizing Bergman as an outsider. It is true, and as I watch more of Bergman's pictures, he really was in a world of his own.
We obviously see that faith is questioned by this pastor, but we also see a relationship between two people slowly and brutally unravel. With probably one of the most impacting scenes I've seen in a while, or for that matter ever, Marta attacks Tomas, and Bergman holds a static shot for just about six minutes. I was captured, and felt fully involved with this woman and this story.
