Review of Winter Light (1963) by Rod A — 24 Nov 2008
Having been raised in the mid-west, this film evoked a whole host of painful memories concerning the struggle to have integrity when in the grip of doubt. I think Bergman approches his characters honestly; he's not preaching, he's legitimately confused.
He's being as naked as he can and it's uncomfortable to watch. We are lucky he had the guts to make such a film.
