Review of Winter Light (1963) by Cassandra M — 01 Dec 2009
A brutally honest and human look at a crisis of faith. As usual, Bergman holds nothing back as he drags you through a very personal crisis. Cold, bleak, and in many ways unrelenting; this raw piece of work represents Bergman's peak as it combines top-notch acting with claustrophobic cinematography, brilliant, stinging dialogue, and themes that will haunt and shake you no matter where you stand on the issue of faith.
