Review of Winnie the Pooh (2011) by Jason V — 18 Jan 2012
I am genuinely baffled by Winnie the Pooh. It's not a bad movie; rather, it's charming and sweet and inoffensive and definitely family friendly. But why? When the end credits are added into the run time, the movie barely breaks the hour mark.
Take out the end credits and this theatrical film is more like 53 minutes. Moreover, I don't feel as though this movie added anything to singular Pooh story I already know (Disney's adaptation of Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree).
The eight denizens of the 100 Acre Wood (excluding Christopher Robin) aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the box; Owl is a know it all narcissist, Pooh concerned only with food, Piglet a scaredy cat and so on.
Three plots are crammed together without room to breathe and, above that, there are nine actual songs on the soundtrack, leaving precious little time for any of the stories to be fleshed out. The finished project is simply average.
