My Rant: Anybody who checks out my reviews regularly knows that I am not exactly what you would call a big horror fan. I find that alot of them suffer from weak scripts. More than the scripts being weak I find alot of them with just outright shitty lead actors. Rarely do we get a chance to see what a great actor looks like behind the wheel of a scary movie vehicle. Wind chill does suffer from one of those weaker scripts that I brought up before. But it does not come up short in the acting department. Emily Blunt turns what could have been a terrible movie into a low hanging fresh one. Working with mediocre material, Blunt manages to dig deep and find a way to maybe not keep you on the edge of your set the whole time, but damn sure the majority of the time. The other young lead, Ashton Holmes, isn't a bad little actor either and manages to not be rendered incompitent or outclassed in his scenes with the always striking Blunt. In the wake of all the gore-tastic shit that has been pumped down American audiences throats of late in this genre, it was really nice to enjoy a scary movie that used tension, camera angles and nice cuts to keep the viewer on edge. Buckets of blood don't do that at all. Good acting and a compitent director due. All in all, a nice little popcorn movie that isn't very memorable, but better than quiet a bit in it's genre.
