Review of Win Win (2011) by Mloy X — 19 Apr 2013
Abby (Clare Foley): Where's Daddy?
Jackie Flaherty (Amy Ryan): He's running.
Abby (Clare Foley): From what?
This is probably the best film I've seen so far this year. Who could have though a movie about high school wrestling could be so interesting; but then again, I guess the circumstances surrounding the wrestling is really the meat of the film. Paul Giamatti is an awesome and very talented actor, and I understand he's not exactly George Clooney and that's perfectly okay, but Mr. Giamatti must you also transform into a slob-Tom Leykis-look-alike? It's a little distracting. Other than that, this film was really surprisingly awesome, partly because of Mr. Giamatti's reliably good performance but props also goes to Alex Shaffer (who plays wrestling phenom Kyle Timmons). I'm glad that the powers that be actually opted to cast the parts with genuinely talented actors with credible acting chops, instead of the usual less talented, over-publicized teen-heartthrobs that seem to be a staple for some of the high grossing summer flicks. This movie has substance, heart and soul; plus well-acted, what more can ask for?
