Review of Win Win (2011) by Vishwas R — 20 May 2014
Win Win may start off kind of slow, but when it starts going in the second act the film it turns into a rich, interesting and well acted movie. The beginning of the movie maybe a little slow, but I still enjoyed it because it stated some good character development for Paul Giamatti's character.
Now in the second act of the movie it gets much more interesting and the characters get much funnier and more entertaining to watch. Tom McCarthy directs this movie and just like what he did in The Station Agent he made the movie really humanistic.
Now the characters in this movie may not have been as memorable as the characters in The Station Agent, but characters in Win Win are still enjoyable. Paul Giamatti is great in this movie and I find his character very complex, which I liked because his character was really likeable, but at times he does really unlikeable things.
The movie makes you question whether or not Paul Giamatti is a good guy and in the end everyone obviously knows he's a good guy, but I loved how the movie shows you some of his unlikeable traits and some unlikeable things he does.
The main message in this movie is that we have to do whatever it takes to keep our homes stable, but at the same time we should help people give them that same stability. Win Win has a very realistic message and it has very realistic characters.
The film was well written and very well directed, at times it has its problems, but I think this movie is still very good and I would recommend it.
