Review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) by Rose B — 23 Sep 2012
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), directed by Mel Stuart, is a unique, dark comedic film (although it was marketed as a children's film), that tells the story of five children who toured the Wonka factory.
the main protagonist Charlie (Peter Ostrum) seems to be the only well behaved child in the bunch. throughout the tour, the children disappear one by one. The first child to go is Augustus. His gluttony gets the best of him as he tries to drink the chocolate waterfall.
The next child to go was Violet, her bubble gum chewing became her demise. Then goes Veruca, and Mike T.V. goes last. Charlie is the last child and inherits the factory. It's an unusual fairytale with a moral: Do good and good things will happen to you.
