(1990) Wild Orchid.
EROTIC DRAMA.
Directed and co-written by erotic film maker Zalman King who's intention was to disrobe and exploit some of the world's most attractive models and actresses. I mean, he initially tried to get super model Cindy Crawford to do the role but she did not want to do full frontal so King got upset and got super model Carre Otis to do the role instead. The basic set up takes place in Mardi Gras, New Orleans, and Emily Reed (Carré Otis) happens to meet James Wheeler (Mickey Rourke) by chance and she appears to be impotent and he is supposed to somehow get her through that except that he starts to fall for her instead. And of course, theirs a heavy make out scene at the end which couldn't make it to sensors, and is now available on home video or DVD.
It was a result of this film which both actor Mickey Rourke and supermodel Carré Otis became a real life couple. And it was also this film that both Rourke and Otis went to a downhill spiral creating many scandals and tabloid rumors which I think Rourke became the part rather than just acting out the part since often in porn movies, money was no object for the artificial environment that they live in and that main characters are 100% superficial with no dire consequences- like living in the Playboy mansion. And as a result of this film, Rourke also took a film hiatus and went into boxing for awhile before returning for a come back to do a semi-personal movie of himself called "The Wrestler" for both he and Otis physically "look' a lot worst then before they agreed to do the Wild Orchids movie in the first place.
2 out of 4 stars.
