Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by James K — 11 Apr 2010
Most of Cannes booed when this movie won the Palme d'Or at the festival.
It wasn't terrible, but I probably would've booed as well. For me, David Lynch is hit-or-miss, but he should stick to his surrealistic approaches to film. My theory is that it won top prize at Cannes because that weirdo director Bernardo Bertolucci was the jury president ("The Dreamers" and "Last Tango In Paris?" Fucked up.) Perhaps this actually is a great film and I just didn't understand it. I really tried to.
However, not liking this movie made me appreciate "Blue Velvet" a lot more.
