Review of Wild (2014) by Katarina I — 20 Feb 2015
This movie was everything I expected it to be and more. It just really goes to show that no matter where you have been, no matter what you have done, you can always improve yourself. You can always move forward. You can learn to forgive yourself, to love yourself, and gain inner strength where you thought you had none. There were so many moving moments... definitely should have brought some kleenex. I was surprised to see Reese Witherspoon in this kind of role but she completely held her own, and gave a magnificent performance.
"Uncertain as I was as I pushed forward, I felt right in my pushing, as if the effort itself meant something. That perhaps being amidst the undesecrated beauty of the wilderness meant I too could be undesecrated, regardless of the regrettable things I'd done to others or myself or the regrettable things that had been done to me. Of all the things I'd been skeptical about, I didn't feel skeptical about this: the wilderness had a clarity that included me".
I will definitely have to check out the memoir. Wish I had known about it earlier.
