Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Wes R — 08 Mar 2008
It's hard to explain in words what I just experienced while watching this film. I thought I knew what great acting was. I thought I knew what made a great screenplay. I thought I had seen enough films to had seen it all and that nothing could jar or impact me in a way I had never felt.
This attitude changed as I watched Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. I have never had my emotions shook up as much as they were with the impact of this film. I was sad, angry, and terrified for these characters like I have never felt for a character before.
These performances are the most brilliant and heartbreaking I have ever seen. They are truly these characters and you forget completley that you are watching a movie. Even now while writing this, my mind is still spinning trying to get a grip back on reality and trying to convince myself that the film I just watched wasn't real, and that the characters really didn't exist.
I have never felt like this after a movie before and I doubt I ever will again. One of the greatest films I have ever seen, and it may be the best!
