Review of Whiteout (2009) by Stuart D — 16 Mar 2010
Disappointing & all too straightforward thriller.
Beckinsale investigates a murder, the first in Antartica, just before winter sets in. She requested this role after an incident in her last assignment, just wanting something quiet to help but the past behind her.
Reluctantly paired up with an investigator from the UN, the pieces all fall into place far too easily & mostly decided by what they assume to be the case rather than basing it on any evidence.
One body leads to another, then a plane & some missing cannisters.
There's no snowbaound atmosphere to speak of such as that in "The Thing" & it lacks any real suspense. The twist is not of any great note either.
