Review of Whiteout (2009) by Robert F — 01 Nov 2010
Incredibly stupid thriller is slim to none when it comes to having any redeeming quallities. First off, if they wanted to make this film the convincing, they should've set it in a much warmer climate.
When the characters are outdoors running from a killer in the midst of a howeling windstorm without so much as getting a bad case of wind burn, you know that this was not the place this film should be set.
Maybe on an Island, but not the Anarctica. Ok, I'm done going off about that, but still. Beckinsale tries hard to rise up above the rough material she was handed, but doesn't quite do it. Macht has no emotion in his voice, and you can just feel the embarrasment when Short and Beckinsale have some dialogue that is very awkwardly exchanged between the two of them.
Skerritt delivers the best performance, partly because I think he has more experience with dealing with a bad script, because he has been in the bussiness longer than the rest of the cast. But that is just the small problems concerning this film.
The plot is ludicrous, the surprises I saw coming a mile away, and the detectives weren't the brightest crayon in the box. There were several instances where they could've easily fixed a problem, but instead, they insist on acting act like idiots, and barely surviving.
It's like CSI:Antarctica, with the series usual smarts lowered to about 80% Not too mention you can barely see much of anything that is going on in the third act. It's a terrible movie.
