Review of White Heat (1949) by Stella D — 21 Jun 2009
Not the james cagney of yankee doodle dandy. this is an intense, dark performance as a psychopathic leader of a small organized crime group. and its not just cagney who has a good performance. several of the other actors do a very good job.
there are points that seem artificially plot driven, but these things happened much more frequently in the 40s. it is a very enjoyable (if you can call it that given the subject matter); tense, interesting, and SPOILER the bad man dies in the end.
