Review of White Christmas (1954) by Robert R — 28 Aug 2018
This lively, spiritual successor to the 1942 hit "Holiday Inn" may look the part, but beyond the impressive colors and the occasionally catchy tune or two, "White Christmas" is an almost entirely vapid experience.
The concept of the second act itself is so devoid of inherent conflict that they have to manufacture and cram in a "he said, she said" misunderstanding subplot lifted from every romantic comedy ever made.
But, damn it, when the ending of your movie involves three of my favorite things -- surprises involving veterans, Christmas, and Bing Crosby -- I have to give your movie some sort of credit. Overall, again, this is a very hollow film.
. .until the end, which'll undoubtedly melt your heart and get you into the holiday spirit.
