Review of Whisky (2004) by Gabriela F — 16 May 2009
Loved this film!
++CAUTION++.
This is not a Hollywood production.
This is a foreign film, meaning things won't be spoon fed to you, you will have to THINK on your own and make your own interpretations. You might even have to think a little after the movie is over. I've seen it twice myself and each time interpreted things differently, especially in reference to Marta.
I greatly recommend it... it is very well shot. The movie circles around three characters... Jacobo, who was left to care for his dying mother and is filled with resentment for his more successful brother, his brother who lives in Brazil, and Marta (Jacobo's loyal employee). When Jacobo's brother announces his visit, he asks Marta to pretend to be his wife in an attempt to show some sort of accomplishment to his brother. Things don't really work as planned... While Marta dares to dream about a different life, Jacobo is too scared of life to change his attitude.
