The thoroughly unhappy owner of a sock factory decides he must prove to his brother that he is getting over some setbacks by pretending to have married the woman who more or less keeps his business afloat singlehandedly. She willingly assents and goes to extreme lengths to make the whole sham plausible.... with precious little gratitude shown.

The first Uruguayan film I've seen, so far as I remember. The extremely boring first few minutes take some perseverance, but are proved to be essential to the film's structure later on.

This is no classic, but it has some nice moments and a few very funny scenes, the exchange of gifts between the brothers is great. Worth a look.

The title, by the way, stems from the fact that people in Uruguay seemingly say "whisky" when posing for a photograph (rather than "cheese" for example). I could be wrong but I don't think the factory owner smiles at all except when posing for photos. Do you know the Father Ted episode where the very boring and depressing Father comes to stay with Ted and Dougal for his summer holiday? If so, then multiply that several times and that is how depressed and antisocial the factory owner is. And yet... in the end he redeems things.
