Review of Where Is Kyra? (2018) by L L — 06 Jul 2018
It was wonderful to see Michelle Pfeiffer on the screen again. Her performance will reach straight into your heart, make you want to step through the screen and into Kyra's life to help her. When she looks straight at you, you wonder is it you or Kyra who is staring into the abyss and while that scene is a bit unnerving, it sets the tone for her story which is heart wrenching, raw and fraught with anxiety. Keifer Southerland breaks away from his usual tough-guy persona to play the role of Doug, Kyra's friend-turned-lover who is tender with her and proves, in spite of his declarations to keep his life together, will go the distance with her.
The cinematography is dark which was a perfect way to set up the story and when I reflect on what I watched, it was akin to watching a timeless black & white film noir. I'll not add any spoilers but can say this, the conclusion may leave you with this question ... Instead of Where is Kyra? Where am I? Unequivocally, one of Pfeiffer's best performances.
