Review of Where Eagles Dare (1968) by Michael T — 04 Oct 2008
Richard Burton received star-billing in this highly enjoyable rehash of the 1960 adaptation of Alistair MacLean's novel THE GUNS OF NAVARONE. The latter film ushered in the era of all-star WWII buddy films.
MacLean wrote the screenplay for this film which features many of the same outlandish elements taken from NAVARONE. With a top-billed Richard Burton as the leader of an insane British Commando mission behind enemy lines; Clint Eastwood is a U.
S. Airborne Ranger who is along for the ride. One of my favourite 1960s-era all-star WWII buddy films. Hammer starlet Ingrid Pitt is also in this one.
