It is tough to find any major flaws in We Own the Night, but I'm not sure it Lived up to all of my expectations. Let me just start by saying that Joaquin Phoenix was flawless and if needed could have carried this film on his own.

Too many times when you see a movie like this the lead performance is powerful but not quite real. Phoenix portrayed quite impressively many human traits that are left out of roles like these. The rest of the acting was solid, but not quite as good as one might expect.

Wahlberg wasn't at his finest and I thought that Mendes' mediocre. Duval did his normal cold, tough cop act. I still can't stress enough how good Phoenix was in this movie. Also, I particularly liked the way the director tried to make certain scenes feel more real- ie: The car chase scene had no hard-rock music, just the sounds of the traffic etc.

including the sound of the wiper blades (which for some reason was very affective). With all that being said- the story wasn't bad and some of the action was pretty good. We own the night is definitely a quality movie worth checking out.
